What They Said

We were so excited when we found we could see puffins. However, we did not do much research prior to going, so here's what we learned. To get to the island, you have to take a boat. We took an early morning boat because we wanted to maximize our day. We were on the boat with construction workers and not tourists. It was a rough ride out to the island in the dark/dusk. However, when we got there, learned that the island doesn't open until later. Be sure take the later boat!!! We sat out in the rain for several hours until things opened. There are hiking trails but it was rainy so we didn't do anything. There was a beach within walking distance from the dock, so we walked along the coast and saw some seals which were nice. When the tour opened, we took a bus to the northern part of the island where the puffins are. It was quite a long walk up and down many stairs to get to the viewing platform. You can only see the puffins through telescopes. It was also super cold, so bring jackets. There was a restaurant on the island that we got lunch. All in all, it was a good day, but could have been much better if we were prepared. The puffins and seals were definitely worth seeing!
